CEO Update: May 2023
I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits as we wrap up the month of May. As we continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of equestrian sports, I am pleased to share with you the latest updates and developments from Equestrian Australia.
Over the past month, our organisation has remained steadfast in its commitment to promoting and advancing the sport of equestrianism across the country. In this CEO Update, we will delve into some of the key initiatives, events, and achievements that have shaped our activities throughout May.
Celebrating our Change Makers – National Volunteer Week
As part of National Volunteer Week we wish to acknowledge and celebrate all our amazing volunteers that help make this sport possible.
We called from nominations from the community to recognise some of the incredible people in our sport and the positive change they have provided for Equestrian.
International Wrap from Equestrian Life
The Virtus Global Games team got their ticket to France, Aussie eventers are vying for an Olympic slot in Ireland, and the Australian flag flies high in the German dressage arena; it’s all happening overseas this month. Back home, the Olympic and Paralympic selectors have been named.

Calling for Interschool Committee Nominations
The Equestrian Australia Board has formed a new sub-committee to support the promotion and development of Interschools within Australia with a focus on horse welfare, child safety and junior participation growth.
There are five (5) positions which will be drawn for either a two (2) or three (3) year term commencing 1 July 2023.

Reminder Horse Temperatures
FEI Vet Regulations for FEI events require you to take the horse’s temperature in the 3 days prior to an FEI event and during.

HIGH PERFORMANCE
Olympic and Paralympic National Selectors Appointed for 2023
Equestrian Australia is pleased to confirm the National Selectors appointed for the Olympic and Paralympic disciplines for 2023/2024.
The National Selectors were appointed by the EA Board following a thorough consultation process, with EA’s High-Performance Leadership team, the Para-Equestrian Panel, the EA National Discipline Committees for the Olympic & Paralympic Disciplines, (Dressage, Eventing, Jumping and Para-Dressage) and the HP Committee.
Australia’s Toft Endurance Dynasty
Most riders dream of competing at the highest levels of the sport. The best consistently compete at the highest levels. For Penny, her husband Peter, and their daughter Alexandra, representing their country in international Endurance competitions is a way of life.
All three members of the Toft family have represented Australia at the highest level of the FEI World Equestrian Games and FEI Endurance World Championships, and their Toft Endurance continues to breed, train, and compete Endurance horses at the highest levels.

Coaching Accreditation
May Coach of the Month – Fiona Heysen, SA
Congraulations to our May Coach of the Month from South Australia, EA Level 2 Coach, Coach Educator and B Level National Judge, Fiona Heysen.
As well as being a skilled artist, she has ridden to Grand Prix level.
Fiona’s exceptional expertise, unwavering dedication, and outstanding contributions to the equestrian community make her a truly deserving recipient of this recognition.
