Sports NSW Awards Night – ENSW State Interschool Team NSW Team of the Year ENSW finished the year on a high with the State Interschool Team being awarded NSW Team of the Year at the annual awards night on the 29thJune. The team were named finalists against teams from Netball, Volleyball, Surf Life Saving , Basketball and Touch Football and were excited to be named Champion Team. The award was collected by seven of the team captains representing the 96 team members. The nomination for Champion Team was as follows: The NSW Interschool Equestrian Team comprised 96 school age children with the youngest in year 2 and the oldest in year 12. At the National Interschool Equestrian Championships held in September 2022 the team won: * Champion Overall Team * Champion Eventing Team* Champion Show Horse Team The National Interschool Equestrian Championships is an annual competition encompassing the five disciplines of Dressage Jumping Eventing Combined Training (dressage and jumping), and Show Horse The event was held over 5 days at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park Although NSW did not have the largest team it was certainly the strongest. In addition to team placings there were 94 individual top 10 placings from the team spread across all disciplines showing the breadth and depth of the team. Whilst the other interstate teams had adults in leadership roles, Team NSW had our Team Captains who assisted in organising, communicating, leading, and supporting our team of riders. They were a cohesive team within a team and demonstrated that equestrian sports can be a team effort through their support and mentoring of young riders. Their success as a leadership group has lead to the development of ENSW Future Leaders program, mentoring young athletes to develop as officials and coaches in the sport. |

After the event, team coordinators from other states contacted ENSW to ask what had been done to facilitate such exemplary behaviour from the team. The team were at all times professional, demonstrating sportsmanship beyond their years. As equestrians, the team members understood the importance of safe practices with their horses and at the event this was extended to increasing the level of safe behaviour on the grounds in general and with each other. There were no issues or disputes throughout the five days of competition with the team or their parents. |
